Given increasing student mobility during dissertations, we will discuss strategies for the individual and group mentoring of doctoral students using structure, scaffolds, and emerging technologies in graduate programs. We will also consider the application of a functional framework for supervision, mentoring, and community-building at the individual, group, and program level based on examples in on-campus and online doctoral education.
Dr. Swapna Kumar is a Clinical Associate Professor and directs the professional doctorate in Educational Technology at the School of Teaching and Learning, University of Florida, USA. She studies the design, implementation, and impact of online and blended learning in higher education. Her recent research is focused on online mentoring in graduate education and quality assurance in online programs. Swapna has published several articles and book chapters in leading journals, and proceedings, details of which can be found at http://www.swapnakumar.com. Currently a Fulbright Scholar at the CTL, she will teach a course on blended learning design and research transformational doctoral learning.
